At Admiral, machine learning and artificial intelligence play a central role in delivering our market-leading products. We are currently looking for talented, numerically minded and enthusiastic individuals to join our Pricing team in the Household Insurance division, based in our global headquarters in Cardiff. Here we will apply cutting edge methods to the area of insurance risk pricing.

Through a combination of structured and on-the-job training, you will develop a strong knowledge of a broad array of cutting-edge techniques in Data Science. After a fully supported initial training period, you will have a chance to use the latest techniques in Data Science to solve real-life problems.

Admiral is a market leader in the Insurance industry, consistetly voted one of Sunday Times Best Big Companies to Work For list in the UK. You will work in a progressive, collaborative environment alongside talented Data Scientists, where no one will ever say “no” to a good idea.

About You

We are looking for motivated individuals who are keen to learn new skills and expand their knowledge. An inquisitive mind and a strong desire to make an impact using innovative analytic methods are essential. You must have a keen interest in machine learning or statistics and be ready to grow your skills as the field progresses. You should be comfortable in a culture where decision making is evidence-based and reliant on rigorous analysis.

Whilst we will support you every step of the way, you should be self-motivated and able to work individually. You will also need to work well in a team, share best practice, and be capable of delivering to agreed timelines in a fast-paced and changing environment.

Main Duties

  • Development, evaluation, and implementation of advanced statistical and machine learning models.
  • Analysis and implementation of our core pricing models.
  • Creation of meaningful datasets for modelling and evaluation from a vast quantity of data in multiple formats.
  • Remaining up to date with trends and developments in technology and methods in Data Science, proactively researching new skills and methods.
  • The ability to think reasonably and critically, to question anomalies and to draw conclusions based on evidence.

Desirable Skills and Experience

  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in a STEM field.
  • An interest using data to understand the world around you, and the ability to communicate that understanding with a non-technical audience.
  • Demonstrate high attention to detail.
  • Some experience using data science tools such as R, Matlab, Python, SQL, etc., perhaps during education or from independent study.
  • Exceptional numerical ability and with a desire to solve problems using innovative and creative techniques.
  • Ability to work in a team but also manage personal workload.

Our hiring process

  • CV screening
  • Numerical test: You will have 25 questions with an inbuilt timing function to complete them in 25 minutes. We understand it may be challenging, but it is a requirement for numerical/analytical roles at Admiral, from entry level to leadership. Please note: The score you get will be used for any other roles you apply to with us that require the test as part of the selection process, and you can only complete this test once.
  • If you score min. 76% you will be invited to an interview with two members of the Household Pricing team.
